Resolve Traffic Gridlock at Vue & Fruitville
By mid February, FDOT will syncronize the traffic lights and add a trip wire on the Ringling bridge to prevent traffic backup into St. Armands. An on site meeting will be held to fine tune the system.
Provide Accurate Traffic Data for Roundabout Design
FDOT has agreed to take 3 days of traffic volume in March. City was asked to back a request for 2 weeks of data instead.
Provide Accurate Traffic Data for MPO Long Range Planning
Sarasota County has no FDOT continuous traffic counters near our beach access roads.
A request for a research counter via Tallahassee was made. The MPO & city will write letters of support.
Jerry Fogle reported the tree inventory committee is very close to finishing the RFP (request for purchase) for a tree inventory.
We have witnessed the use of signs notifying residents when herbicides are sprayed.
City staff is working on a new computer program that will allow staff to track trees being removed and allow residents to sign up for trees when they become available.
Two new tree ordinances are being proposed.
One will increase the tree replacement requirements for commercial construction, new residential dwelling and substantial residential remodels.
The second will expand the mitigation planting area on private property from 1000 feet to the neighborhood boundaries. This will make it easier for residents and developers to find homes for the replacement trees.
The neighborhood tree planting program is just getting started and we are still working out the process to make it easier.
Please review the tree proposal I provided and present to your residents. If you have any questions we can discuss them at the next meeting.
I want to again thank the commissioners and staff for working so hard to protect our trees. I have seen Tim Litchet’s schedule and it is filled with tree meetings. Thanks Tim!
